St Martin's Church is one of the very few Grade 1 listed buildings in Looe.
What do Looe's historic churches mean to you?
The inside of any town or village church gives a fascinating insight into the heritage of the past. In both St Martin and St Nicholas, history unfolds through the inscriptions and dedications found in each building.
The visitor can pause and reflect in an atmosphere effectively shielded from the outside world.
But whatever Looe's churches mean to you, one fact cannot be altered: they must be preserved, for they cannot be replaced.

Church Preservation: Who pays?
Few people realise that the church congregation alone are responsible for maintaining our beautiful buildings for the benefit of us all.
Church authorities give very limited assistance, and even contributions from government-funded bodies like English Heritage/Heritage lottery require us to 'match' the grant given.
So far, restoration money has been raised both locally and nationally, but for the future we hope our new 'Friends' scheme will provide funds for regular, long term maintenance for these magnificent buildings.

St Nicholas Church on West Looe Quay is Grade 2* listed.
The purpose and aim for our new 'Friends' scheme is not only to raise awareness of the financial situation of our two churches in Looe, but also to appeal to you to share the burden of costs with us.
It is felt that, with your help, we will be able to pass down to future generations the heritage they deserve.
